When to seek urgent care in Ireland
Clear guidance on what belongs in GP care, telehealth, and emergency services.
Feeling unwell can be stressful — especially when you are unsure whether to call the practice, try telehealth, or go to an emergency department.
Start with urgency
If someone has severe chest pain, sudden weakness or speech difficulty, severe breathing problems, or uncontrolled bleeding, dial 112 or 999 immediately. Do not wait for a practice callback.
Good fits for the GP or telehealth
Many non-emergency concerns can start with a phone or email enquiry to the practice. Telehealth may suit follow-ups, medication questions, and milder symptoms that do not need a physical examination.
When an in-person visit helps
Injuries, unexplained severe pain, and symptoms that need examination are usually better seen face to face. Our team can advise when you contact us.
